About the place

The Transylvanian Saxons built the church as a Catholic church dedicated to the Virgin Mary; a Latin stone inscription dates its completion to 1330. It became Lutheran at the Reformation, burned during Rákóczi's war and again in 1848, and repairs ended in 1851. The tower is about 47 m high with four corner turrets. Look for the Gothic window frame from around 1400 with human figures, and the town's first coat of arms with the letters OPR (Oppidum Privilegiatum Regun), which confirmed its right to hold fairs.

The church houses the Saxon Museum, which began in 2016 as an exhibition for the 26th gathering of Transylvanian Saxons. It shows folk costumes over 100 years old, embroidered wall hangings with rhymed sayings, an 1842 New Testament and an 1859 Luther Bible. In front of the church stands the Pyramid of Violins, a 7.30 m monument by sculptor Baróthy Ádám honouring Reghin's violin makers.
